Causes and Cures to Help with Back Pain
Some of the mechanical problems are due to the way the spine moves and the way a person feels when the spine moves in certain ways. Some discs in the back originate to deteriorate, losing their cushioning ability. This is called intervertebral disc degeneration. This is the most favorite cause of back pain. Other back harm from mechanical causes includes spasms, muscle tension and herniated discs.
Assist pain can be caused by injury, such as a sprain, or fracture. Tears in the ligaments that serve the spine caused from twisting or lifting improperly are called sprains. Fractured vertebrae are most often caused by osteoporosis, which makes the bones weak and porous.
An aching back may also be caused from acquired conditions or disease. Some of the medical problems are scoliosis, or curvature of the spine, spondylolisthesis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and several other arthritis conditions. Ankylosing spondylitis, and spinal stenosis, is a narrowing of the spinal column. This puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerves. Another cause for back pain is from pregnancy, kidney stones, infections, endometriosis and fibromyalgia. Endometriosis is a buildup of uterine tissue in places outside the uterus. Fibromyalgia causes fatigue and muscle pain.
Infections and tumors although not common, can mild cause back pain. Osteomyelitis is an infection that causes pain when in the vertebrae. Discitis causes harm because it involves the discs that cushion the vertebrae. Tumors can appear in the back and they usually appear because of cancer that has spread from another place in the body.
Emotional stress plays a big role in how severe the pain is and how long it will last. Stress causes the back muscles to become tense and this leads to pain.
Help for Back Pain With Acupuncture
People with back pain are often given pills to help extinguish the pain, or surgery is scheduled. Many people are going the alternative device and having acupuncture done. There are no side effects, no risks of having something so unfriendly and that will leave a person worse off than before.
Acupuncture is centuries archaic and has a positive effect on people with chronic back pain. A glance was done on 638 people split into four groups with chronic coarse back pain who never had acupuncture before.
Individualized acupuncture: The patients in this group receive an acupuncture treatment based on a customized prescription for acupuncture points. The second group: Standardized acupuncture where patient received acupuncture treatment considered effective by experts for chronic low back pain. The third group: Simulated acupuncture and patients in this group received a treatment that mimics needle acupuncture, but a toothpick was used instead of a needle. The toothpick did not puncture the skin. The forth group: The usual care group. Patients in this group continued doing what they had been before, such as physical therapy or taking pain medication.
This first phase of the study lasted three weeks with treatments given two times a week. Then it switched to once a week treatments for four weeks. The researchers measured the amount of back pain and related issues and dysfunction at 8 weeks, 16 weeks and then one year after treatments. The results showed that the patients who received individualized acupuncture didn’t provide any benefit over standardized acupuncture or the simulated acupuncture. But, these three treatments did better then the patients who received usual care. Percentage wise, 60 percent of the acupuncture-treated patients had improvements that are more meaningful in dysfunction compared to 39 percent of the usual care group who noted they felt better. The patients in the acupuncture group were able to do more daily activities. After a year, the behold showed that the acupuncture group was more likely to continue to improve. The results showed 65 percent of acupuncture-treated patients,
but only 50 percent of usual care patients reporting improvements.
The improvements didn’t last and began to wane over time. Researchers found it puzzling that the simulated acupuncture results were as good as the real ones. They came up with two possibilities for this happening. They believe that is could be a physiological chain of events that occur when a needle is inserted needle or stimulates the skin superficially. The other possibility is in the mind. If you believe that this treatment is going to work, it usually does.
